Avian Flu Information Available! |
We have added an array of resources for members on the subject of the potential Avian ("Bird") Flu Pandemic. Located in the HR Tool Kit section of the Members Area, we have uploaded selected checklists, analysis papers, and external links designed to give members a well-rounded perspective of the scope of the pandemic, the potential costs, and the issues to consider for your business. Some of the material is industry-specific but within it contains information that can be applied to most businesses. |

Medicare Part D and Katrina Information Online |
For Members interested in learning more on the employer notice responsibilities under the Medicare Modernization Act of 2003 and the rise of Medicare Part D, we have added useful links to our HR Toolkit area. Just click on the "Other Sample Documents or Tools" and the links are at the bottom of that page. Additionally, there is a white paper that is on the White Papers section of the Members Area as well on the subject courtesy of the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services. Also, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has also come out with a special program to help in the Katrina effort. Special tax treatment is being given to employees interested in donating leave time (such as vacation or other forms of earned time). Members can read more about this program in the "Statutes and Regulations" area of the Members Area. Specifically, after clicking on and opening the "Statutes and Regulations" page, click on the link for federal regulations. |

I-9 Form Revised - Optional to Use - Changes Are Minor |
With no fanfare or press release, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) issued a "new" I-9 Form. The form has a 5/31/2005 revision date noted on the bottom of the form. EMPLOYERS SHOULD TAKE NOTE HOWEVER, THAT YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO USE THE 5/31/2005 VERSION OF THE FORM AT THIS TIME. Employers can continue to use the 1991 version of the Form until the end of the year. The reason for this position is that the changes to the form are not substantive and do not change the current requirements that employers face in completing the I-9 today. Unofficial word is that there will be yet another revision to the I-9 Form before the end of the year. However, there has been no timetable set as for when that may occur. Watch our May/June 2005 newsletter for more information on this subject. |
