Durham Manufacturing Company in Durham, CT is seeking a qualified individual for an opening at its Durham, Connecticut facility. The vacancy is for a Human Resources Assistant position and a description of the job is specified below:

JOB SUMMARY:

Provides administrative, clerical and technical support to the Human Resources function, production supervisors, managers, and employees.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Administers the Family & Medical Leave Act (FMLA) program.
  2. Administers the Consolidated Omnibus Reconciliation Act (COBRA) program for terminated employees.
  3. Assists with the administration of the group insurance programs; medical, dental, short term disability, life, accidental death & dismemberment. Coordinates annual open enrollment benefits program.
  4. Administers Worker's Compensation Program, includes arranging for and follow up of medical treatments.
  5. Maintains Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) log, and associated paperwork.
  6. Administers the company’s Short Term Disability Program.
  7. Performs receptionist duties for the factory office.
  8. Tracks employee hires, terminations, transfers and temporary workers to update and maintain the employee census and other reports.
  9. Assists the Human Resources Manager in administering the Temporary Employee program.
  10. Creates new hired employee’s personnel files. Sets up new hires and temporary employees in the computer system, and makes ID badges.
  11. Maintains employee database in the Paychex’s HRIS, and compiles reports as needed.
  12. Assists supervisors and other personnel in the use of the ShopVue timekeeping system.
  13. Performs a variety of clerical tasks for Human Resources such as faxing, typing letters, memos, reports, and other material from copy, monthly employee absence calendar, and phone list.
  14. Administers Connecticut Business & Industry Association’s Eyewear program
  15. Organizes event functions such as retirement luncheons and children’s Christmas party.
  16. Assists the Human Resources Manager in a variety of human resources’ and associated projects.
  17. Provides Return Authorizations for Staple’s and sends the paperwork to the appropriate department.
  18. Processes and tracks freight claims for damaged or lost products. Aggressively pursue denied claims when a positive outcome had been anticipated.
  19. Performs other duties and tasks as assigned by the Human Resources Manager.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in human resources, psychology, or related field
  2. Five years human resources experience
  3. Speak Spanish
  4. Excellent computer and typing skills including a working knowledge of MSExcel, MSWord, and HRIS.
  5. Pleasant and accommodating manner, especially in stressful situations
  6. Occasionally lift up to 10 lbs
  7. Work efficiently in a fast paced, team environment
  8. Work effectively with a group of people with diverse abilities and backgrounds
