Durham Manufacturing Company in Durham, CT is seeking a qualified individual for an opening at its Durham, Connecticut facility. The vacancy is for a Human Resources Assistant position and a description of the job is specified below: JOB SUMMARY: Provides administrative, clerical and technical support to the Human Resources function, production supervisors, managers, and employees. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Administers the Family & Medical Leave Act (FMLA) program.
- Administers the Consolidated Omnibus Reconciliation Act (COBRA) program for terminated employees.
- Assists with the administration of the group insurance programs; medical, dental, short term disability, life, accidental death & dismemberment. Coordinates annual open enrollment benefits program.
- Administers Worker's Compensation Program, includes arranging for and follow up of medical treatments.
- Maintains Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) log, and associated paperwork.
- Administers the company’s Short Term Disability Program.
- Performs receptionist duties for the factory office.
- Tracks employee hires, terminations, transfers and temporary workers to update and maintain the employee census and other reports.
- Assists the Human Resources Manager in administering the Temporary Employee program.
- Creates new hired employee’s personnel files. Sets up new hires and temporary employees in the computer system, and makes ID badges.
- Maintains employee database in the Paychex’s HRIS, and compiles reports as needed.
- Assists supervisors and other personnel in the use of the ShopVue timekeeping system.
- Performs a variety of clerical tasks for Human Resources such as faxing, typing letters, memos, reports, and other material from copy, monthly employee absence calendar, and phone list.
- Administers Connecticut Business & Industry Association’s Eyewear program
- Organizes event functions such as retirement luncheons and children’s Christmas party.
- Assists the Human Resources Manager in a variety of human resources’ and associated projects.
- Provides Return Authorizations for Staple’s and sends the paperwork to the appropriate department.
- Processes and tracks freight claims for damaged or lost products. Aggressively pursue denied claims when a positive outcome had been anticipated.
- Performs other duties and tasks as assigned by the Human Resources Manager.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS: - Bachelor’s degree in human resources, psychology, or related field
- Five years human resources experience
- Speak Spanish
- Excellent computer and typing skills including a working knowledge of MSExcel, MSWord, and HRIS.
- Pleasant and accommodating manner, especially in stressful situations
- Occasionally lift up to 10 lbs
- Work efficiently in a fast paced, team environment
- Work effectively with a group of people with diverse abilities and backgrounds
