On January 16, 2018, The Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) announced they are making changes to their Professional in Human Resources (PHR) and Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) exams effective August 1, 2018. Both exams will remain the same through July 31, 2018. If you’ve been considering sitting for the PHR or SPHR now may be the time!
HRCI is adopting a new body-of-knowledge (BOK) and exam content to reflect updated HR competencies, knowledge and practice-based experiences. These changes are the result of a thorough practice analysis study conducted by HRCI in 2017. It has been seven years since the last update.
In addition, to the content changes, HRCI will be utilizing new question formats that will include: fill-in-the-blanks, matching, and multiple answer option questions. HRCI has not indicated exactly when this new question format will go live. They are currently using this format for the aPHR exams and are beta testing it in some of the PHR/SPHR exams. It is our understanding that the majority of questions will remain in the multiple choice format currently being used.
HRCI is also changing test centers; moving from Prometric to PearsonVue in March of this year. If you are looking to schedule your exam after the end of February, you’ll need to visit the PearsonVue site.
