The Employers Association of the Northeast (EANE) and Rhode Island SHRM are pleased to present our first-ever Employment Law Summit!
Matthew Parker, Esq., partner at Whelan, Corrente & Flanders, LLP, will kick off the conference with an overview of the 2022 legislative session at the Rhode Island General Assembly and key developments for employers and HR professionals. Next, we will be joined by Mark Adams of EANE for an in-depth overview of legislative developments at the federal level. Following a brief intermission and awards presentation, Gregory Tumolo, Esq., partner at Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith, LLP and an EANE and RI SHRM board member, and Pam Thornton, EANE’s Director of Strategic HR Services, will co-present an in-depth reasonable suspicion training for managers and supervisors. Attendees will leave this session with the tools and resources that they need to prepare for the legal sale of marijuana for adult recreational use. The culmination of our conference will be a keynote session with Jocelyn Samuels, Vice Chair of the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Our interactive and wide-ranging conversation will cover a number of topics, including:
- The evolving mission of the EEOC and how the agency serves our modern workforce
- The role of EEO compliance in creating a culture of inclusion
- The components of effective EEOC policies and implicit bias training programs
- The best practices for conducting an effective EEO investigation
- The use of technology in promoting equal employment opportunity
- The unique role and responsibilities of Employee Relations, Human Resources, EEO Coordinators, and DEI Professionals in promoting diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplaces
