Before the pandemic, employee engagement was top of mind in our organizations for managers and leaders alike.  Now, our most important priority is getting people back to work and doing it safely.  We will need to follow state and federal guidelines and reorganize the way we used to physically interact in the workplace.  Our offices, common areas and production lines will need to allow for more distance and consideration for staggering people and shifts will be our new reality. Continuing to manage the remote workforce will be another layer of complexity for many.

Our workplace health, wellness and safety protocols are going to need to be on point. Being vigilant about cleaning practices and developing screening protocols and contingency plans for when people are sick will be critical. Reviewing our sick, vacation and PTO policies for accuracy and compliance and communicating a solid process for requests for accommodations will prove to be an incredible undertaking.  Getting through this phase will require all hands on deck and an increased level of flexibility, managing expectations and compassion will be needed by all.
