AN OPEN LETTER TO ALL CEOs/Executive Directors/Presidents
From John Henderson
This day was established to honor the important role HR professionals have in shaping the workplace, finding and nurturing talent, impacting a positive culture and so much more.
Your HR staff sometimes is tasked with many things, including the “invisible” work that may go unnoticed but is vital to the success of your organization. Have you ever wondered what would happen if everyone on your HR team won the lottery and didn’t come back to work? (Well, they wouldn’t leave you high-and-dry – that’s not in their DNA – they would find you a solution before flying off to the Caribbean.) Think about all the work that would need to be done to keep the organization open!
Here are just a few of the ways HR professionals impact your organization:
- Attracting and retaining talent: HR plays a crucial role in attracting, hiring, and retaining top talent. In this competitive labor market, they are challenged with finding new ways for bringing on new talent and retaining current staff.
- Compliance: Do you want to spend your time keeping up with changes in state and federal labor laws, regulations, leaves of absence implementation? Your HR staff ensures that the company does not get into any legal troubles and mitigates risk.
- Training and Development: HR does a great job of understanding where to find the learning and development opportunities available to help staff continuously develop. When your staff sees that you value them enough to invest in their development – they are going to be much more engaged at work. Continuous development helps the organization stay competitive and adapt to changes.
- Organizational Culture: As leader of your organization, culture must come from the top. You know you can rely on HR to support your vision, values and mission. A positive culture leads to more creativity and productivity.
- Conflict Resolution: How many times have you said, or heard other leaders say, “That’s a job for HR?” When conflict arises, it should be the manager’s job to try to resolve it and know that HR is there to support and be a sounding board on how to approach the conflict. Your HR staff helps prepare your managers to be better leaders.
September 26th is a day to celebrate the contributions of your HR staff! How can you reward them? Here’s a great idea – give them their own day of professional development and time to celebrate with their peers. EANE’s HR Connect 2024 conference is being held that day at the MGM Conference Center in Springfield, MA. The event will be a time for HR pro’s to hone their skills, learn from one another and celebrate achievements for all they do to contribute to your company’s success.
