COVID-19 has brought more than shortness of breath, cough and fevers to the US. It has also prompted the Federal Government to enact the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA), which expands the federal Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) to provide benefits and protections to employees at small businesses that had previously been exempt from coverage under the FMLA. These expanded rights include new additions to the FMLA requiring employers with under 50 employees to provide paid leave for coronavirus-related reasons.

Effective, April 2, 2020, employees working for smaller businesses (fewer than 50 employees) will be eligible for benefits and protections.
